Our Love Story…
Josh and I first met in 2010 through a mutual friend, we were part of the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) scene at StandAlone MMA in Chico, California. Josh and I started training together and he helped coach, train, cut weight with me and cornered me my last couple fights and I’ve been able watch him fight professionally as well! He truly is my best friend! We started dating in 2014 and he proposed June 4, 2016 at Disneyland during the “Diamond Disney 60th Celebration.” It was Saturday morning and being the ‘extra’ woman that I am, hand picked out our outfits for the day, I ordered matching shirts off Etsy which said “Soul” & “Mate” (I had no idea he would be proposing to me) and a Minnie Mouse Tutu I had custom made. Later that night during the firework show he pulled me aside and asked a stranger to take our picture . As I turned around he was on his knee with the most gorgeous rose gold and white gold diamond ring I’ve ever seen and the sweetest words ever spoken. I started bawling my eyes out because I was truly shocked he managed to keep his plan a secret and it was the first time in my life I was truly surprised! This was his first time at Disneyland, I wanted to give him the ultimate experience, Grand Californian Hotel, Disney Magic Hours and all, but he topped it all with proposing to me. Now Disneyland really is the “Happiest place on earth.”
Our original wedding date was set for 10.7.17 but God had other plans, we later found out that was our daughter Raelynn’s original due date but we ended up having her 3 months early in July and spent the following months in the NICU. She’s our miracle baby. We reset our date to 10.19.19 because October is my absolute favorite month, it’s all things pumpkin spice, apples and cinnamon, bonfires, flannels, coziness, changing of the leaves, or as I like to say, everything turned to gold, it’s the gathering of friends and family. So my ultimate goal was to incorporate my favorite parts of fall into our wedding.
First off, I had to find the perfect dress, I immediately went to Always Elegant Bridal and Tuxedo. In order to make the cut—the fit, color and details had to be perfect and the third dress I put on, I started crying, because just like Josh, I knew I had found “The One.”
Some of the best personal moments about my wedding was having my Uncle Rodney Rios and Uncle Pat Welch walk me down the aisle. After my dad unexpectedly passed away November of 2012, I knew my wedding was going to be bittersweet not having him physically there to walk me down the aisle but my uncles happily did that for me. Having my grandparents there, my father’s parents who have been married for 55 years was a beautiful tribute to our day, and all my bridesmaids and my husband‘s groomsmen who came from literally all over the world to be by our side meant the world to both of us.
Something that stood out to me on our wedding day was the amount of pure love and camaraderie that was present. We had near 200 people in attendance and everything flowed perfectly! I remember stepping back and just looking around at everyone, vendors included doing their part to make sure our day was stress-free and smooth. I truly lived in each moment through out the day and soaked it all in.
My overall inspiration for my wedding day and dress was a whimsical fall. Starting with: the proper venue that represented the theme we were going for with their vineyard, giant redwoods and and breeze that whistled through the leaves, the strings of lights that lit up the dance floor, the ethereal bay that glowed when the sun set over it and the geese flying above, the pumpkins filled with hand picked field flowers set upon wood rounds at every table put together by our dear friends Kiara Diamond, Kandice Rickson and Kristi Banks, the wine barrels and the color palette which represented the season itself, reds, oranges, greens and golds, the beautiful custom cake and cupcake display with various fall flavors such as “carrot,” “pumpkin” and “chocolate pumpkin.” Our bridesmaids wore stunning sequined gold and rose gold dresses the groomsmen wore navy blue suits with rose gold ties. The bouquets and boutonnières were a blend of all the fall colors which tied everything together like a bow.
I wore a Maggie Sottero dress and it was absolutely stunning, it had intricate lace details and when the light hit it, it glistened, the straps had pearls that were so classy and elegant, it was a fairytale wedding.
My advice to all future brides:
When you’re ready to plan your wedding go to Always Elegant Bridal, if you truly want that “Say Yes To The Dress” experience.
Allow your bridesmaids to help you, that’s what they’re there for. Spend the money on a videographer, I promise you it’s worth it! You will have a video to cherish and look back on for the rest of your lives! Eat the cake and the food, without guilt or shame. It’s the best day of your life so make it count and if you can afford it get an interactive photo booth because it was a total hit at our wedding! Lastly, soak in every moment because the day will go by extremely fast let your vendors help you, let your bridal party help you and enjoy your day and shine like the queen that you are!
