Ashley & Joey Carr :: March 17, 2012

We are the story book High School Sweethearts.  We met at a friend’s Halloween party during our 8th grade year where Joey’s sarcastic charm got my attention while my feisty attitude intrigued him.  We dated throughout high school and college where our love truly began to grow through all of life’s challenges.  In July of 2010 Joey popped the question and wedding plans began.  A couple months later we celebrated a very intimate ceremony in Fort Bragg, CA before Joey left for Afghanistan but decided when he got back we would celebrate with our closest friends and family in a catholic ceremony. We are very family oriented, and our friends and family mean the world to us. Our life is always going 100mph whether it’s attending Friday night football games watching our younger brother play, watching our niece play soccer on Saturday morning, or enjoying time with friends and family, we are always on the go.  Joey is busy year round either hunting in the fall and winter or golfing in the spring and summer, while I spend most of my time now at the gym or shopping.  We have a passion for traveling and taking trips whether they are over night or a week long. But for now we are just enjoying our home and family time.

Ashley’s advice to brides was shop locally! Yuba City has phenomenal vendors that are sometimes overlooked but we have the best of the best in this town! From Always Elegant to Elegant Petals the women who own and run these businesses made my wedding! Bill and Mel have been working in this town for years and have the personalities that are perfect for the big day, both humorous and entertaining! But I definitely would say shop locally and do your research with multiple vendors, find the vendor that best suits your personality and needs.  I could not have gotten through the big day without my vendors!!!

Be flexible.  I chose the fabric and color of my bridesmaids dresses but let them choose their own style.  We all have different body types and insecurities.  One dress does not always fit all.  I also let them wear any shoe they felt comfortable in…you want them smiling at the end of the night don’t you? I again chose the color and let them choose their style.

Trust your vendors.  They are the experts! Whether it’s sizes on dresses (even if your going to lose weight), flower types, adding a little more bling, or taking the bling down a notch they know their stuff, that’s why they do what they do for a living!

Finding my vendors was Ashley’s favorite part of planning her special day! I had so much fun going around at the Bridal Shows at the fair grounds and then going into the shops to meet the owners and find which ones best fit my needs.  I had the most creative, fun, and supportive group of vendors anyone could ask for! From dresses to flowers to entertainment my favorite part of wedding planning was choosing my vendors!!!

If anything could be changed Ashley commented, “Wear comfy shoes!!! My feet went numb half way through the ceremony!  So wear comfy shoes and bring a spare set just in case”. She also added, “I would probably do more research and spend more time on the poses and people I wanted in my pictures.  The wedding day is crazy so when they tell you to make a list, MAKE ONE! Inform your family members ahead of time to stay for pictures and really think of what moments you want captured.  I am in love with all of my photos but then being the Pinterest nut that I am I always finds new creative ideas”.
